199 Projects in 23 Years: Klitschko Foundation Reflects on Its Impact

Over 23 years of work, Klitschko Foundation has reached more than 3 million Ukrainians. Since its establishment in 2003, the Foundation has implemented 199 projects in education, sports, mental health, and the comprehensive development of young people. Following the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, humanitarian aid became another important area of the Foundation’s work, with more than 500 tonnes of assistance delivered since 2022.
Klitschko Foundation was established to create opportunities for young people, support their development, help them gain new knowledge, and turn their ideas into reality.
“Giving young people a sense of purpose, creating opportunities, and motivating them to reach new goals — this is what my brother and I wanted to achieve when we founded Klitschko Foundation 23 years ago. We knew better than most what it meant to ‘fight for your dream’. Times have changed, and so have the dreams of young people. Today, it is no longer just about success or achievements in sports and education. We have reached a point where we must protect our children from the challenges of war. We need to support them, strengthen their resilience, and safeguard their mental health. Every child, every teenager, represents the future of Ukraine and the free world,” says Wladimir Klitschko, co-founder of Klitschko Foundation.
Over the years, the needs of Ukrainians have changed, and the Foundation’s areas and formats of work have evolved alongside them.
In its early years, a significant part of the Foundation’s work focused on sports programs. It provided schools with sports equipment, developed sports facilities, and supported young athletes. Over time, education and youth development became one of its key areas of work.
“Over 23 years, Klitschko Foundation has implemented 199 projects and reached more than 3 million Ukrainians. Some programs have come to an end, while others have evolved in response to new challenges, giving way to new areas of work.
Today, we work with a generation of young Ukrainians whose development is directly shaped by war. That is why, alongside education, psychological resilience, responsibility for one’s community, the ability to adapt, and the skills to turn ideas into concrete action have become central to our work,” says Angelina Osadcha, CEO of Klitschko Foundation.
russia’s full-scale invasion has had a significant impact on the work of Klitschko Foundation. The Foundation continued implementing its long-term programs while integrating mental health support into all of them. It also launched large-scale initiatives such as Mental Guard. At the same time, in 2022, the Foundation introduced a humanitarian aid program to support Ukrainians affected by the war.
With the support of international partners, Klitschko Foundation has delivered more than 500 tonnes of humanitarian aid. This includes medicines and medical supplies, hygiene products, baby food, food supplies, as well as medical equipment for Ukrainian hospitals, including children’s hospitals.
Today, the Foundation continues to develop educational projects for young people, support mental health, and create opportunities for youth-led initiatives. At the same time, it maintains its humanitarian work and cooperates with Ukrainian and international partners to support the country throughout the full-scale war.
Looking ahead, Klitschko Foundation will focus on further scaling its projects and creating new opportunities for the generation that is already shaping Ukraine’s future.
